Rainbow Trails Camp

Healing Young Hearts

rainbow trailsFor more than two decades, Hope has offered Rainbow Trails Camp for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Each child attends the camp at no cost, to learn how to cope with the complex feelings of grief. Children often struggle to understand their emotions and can’t always articulate their feelings. This is why, within the fun camp games, therapeutic activities are designed to uncover these hidden emotions – so healing can begin.

Hope’s annual Rainbow Trails Camp is designed for any youth, ages 6-17, who have experienced the loss of a loved one during the past year. The goal of Rainbow Trails Camp is to provide:

  • An understanding of the grief process
  • Skills to cope with grief and loss
  • An opportunity to memorialize and say goodbye to loved ones A safe weekend camp experience

Camp Volunteers

Volunteers are an important part of our camp. Working under the direction of our professional team, adults aged 18 and over can apply to help at camp (application deadline: February 15). Guidance and training are provided. Volunteers help in many areas including:

  • Chaperone/buddy/room monitor
  • Recreation activities
  • Pre-and post-camp registration and reception
  • On-site medication/first aid nurses
  • Kitchen staff
  • Safety and security

Roles are assigned to volunteers based on need and experience. Some camp volunteer roles require two overnight stays; others require only day/evening participation on the weekend. All camp volunteers must attend an orientation and training session(s) provided by Hope’s camp director and bereavement counselors prior to camp.
