When is it Time for Hospice?

Every person is different, but these signs often indicate that it’s time for hospice care:

  • Frequent hospital visits or trips to the ER
  • Weakness, frailty, or extreme fatigue
  • Lack of appetite and weight loss
  • Loss of pleasure or interest in activities

Your doctor may suggest hospice if he or she thinks that you probably have six months or less to live. However, anyone can make a referral for hospice care. Even if you aren’t sure if you’re ready for hospice care, we may be able to help.

Hope Hospice House Visitation Policy

Hope Hospice Houses provide around-the-clock comforting care while preserving the dignity and privacy of our patients and their loved ones. Hope abides by Florida’s “No Patient Left Alone Act” ensuring that in-person patient visitation is permitted unless the patient objects [Policy IP-PC.V01].

  • Visits by family, friends, and significant others, including children, are permitted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. Children must be closely supervised by their parent or guardian.
  • Visitors are not required to be vaccinated.
  • Staff will assist with accommodations for family members wishing to stay with their loved one through the night.
  • Privacy in patient rooms is provided as requested.
  • Staff will assist in the guided restriction of visitors per patient/Health Care Surrogate/family request.
  • Sitting areas, family rooms, gardens, libraries, cafes, play rooms, and kitchen areas are provided for patient and family use.
  • Visitors exhibiting inappropriate behavior may be asked to leave and may be prohibited from further visitation.
  • Following a patient’s death, the family is provided reasonable time and space to grieve privately.
